San Francisco - 5 oz Class Type I, Small Font #, w/ Straight Stem Nines

Based once again solely on lot number sequence, Type I oval hallmark, small font serial numbers with straight stem nines in 999.5 fineness follow next.  These could be a carry over of the Lot 7 Type I oval hallmark, medium font serial number in 999.5 fineness but as we can see in previous series, a change in font size is accompanied by a new numerical sequence. On all of this series that I have seen, the weight is stamped on the reverse and the OZS appears in smaller size letters similar to the pair pictured above.

I have seen very few of the Type I oval hallmark, small font serial numbers with straight stem nines in 999.5 fineness , and the only sequential pair I know of, (pictured above), is in The United States Government Silver Ingot Collection of Ken Conaway.

There are a few Type I oval hallmark, small font serial numbers with straight stem nines in 999.5 fineness from Lot 8 but this is the last we see lot numbers on Mint Of The United States At San Francisco 5 oz class silver ingots until the 1959 round dated hallmark series.
